How To Make Sure Wedding Planning Doesn’t Take Over Your Life

Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life. But let’s face it – it is also one of the most stressful days. You spend so long picking every little detail and want everything to go perfectly as planned. Wedding days can feel daunting, but with the right guidance, you can make sure you are not stressed about the way the napkins are folded and focus on being present on your big day. Below, we share some essential wedding day tips and tricks to help you achieve a flawless wedding day.

Wedding Day Tip:

Plan and Delegate

Effective planning is the backbone of a successful wedding day. My number one biggest wedding day tip and trick, which I tell all prospective clients, is to budget for a planner. Let this person run the show and make your wedding day dreams come true. A planner can make sure that your vision—from design to decor—is straight out of a Pinterest storyboard. Come wedding day, they will be the one’s making sure that the flowers are where they should be, that the right decor is in the right spaces, and all the little details. So often I see the wedding party or mom running around, sweating, trying to get things exactly as imagined. Let your loved one’s enjoy the day with you! Hire someone to be in control.

Now – I know what you are thinking. My venue offers a planner! Awesome! But USUALLY these are just day of coordinators. Their job is to make sure that the ceremony basically starts on time, cocktail hour kicks off, etc. While they are super helpful and love when venues offer this, it is important to remember that their job is usually NOT to set up special decor, especially if you bring in outside decor vendors. So ask the question on the level of planning that they offer!

I know that not all budgets allow for wedding planners. Though I will say – it is OK to have a cash bar or only pay for a few drinks for your guests so that you can have budget for other things to make your dreams come true!

Anyhoo – as for the wedding day tips and tricks if you don’t have a planner!

Start by creating a comprehensive timeline that includes all key activities and any deadlines leading up to the wedding. This will help you stay organized and ensure that nothing is overlooked. This should include payment schedules, decision schedules, RSVP deadlines, etc. Ask all of your vendors for any key dates that need to be noted. Put it all in a Google Doc to keep track!

Here are some steps to follow:

  • Create a Checklist: Start with a broad list that includes all the tasks you need to complete. Websites like The Knot offer excellent resources for creating wedding checklists.
  • Set a Budget: Determine a realistic budget and stick to it. Allocate funds to different categories such as venue, catering, attire, and entertainment. Know that you may want to reallocate out pieces of the pie to other spots (ah’hem — remember me mentioning a planner above!).
  • Delegate Responsibilities: Assign tasks to trusted family members and friends. This not only reduces your workload but also allows your loved ones to feel involved in your special day.

By planning ahead and delegating tasks, you’ll be able to manage your time efficiently and reduce stress as the big day approaches.
