Hi There! I'm Rachel

Professional Family Photographer in Lafayette, IN

chicago wedding photographer

Since 2019, I’ve been telling love-filled stories through family photography across Indiana and the Midwest—capturing moments as real, raw, and entirely you as the love you share.

From first steps to belly laughs, I live for the in-between moments—the ones that can’t be staged, predicted, or posed, but will have you reminiscing for years to come.

Whether you’re chasing giggles in a sun-soaked field, cuddled up on the couch in your happy place, or splashing through puddles after a summer storm—my family photography is all about preserving the unfiltered, heart-bursting magic of your story.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that choosing the right Family Photographer is a big decision. To make the process easier, here are answers to some of the most common questions about working with Bohemian Lights Photography.

Any age! Whether you've got a newborn, toddlers running wild, teenagers who'd rather be anywhere else, or multi-generational crew, family photos work at every stage. Each season of family life has its own magic worth capturing.

Your choice! We can shoot at my studio, your home, a favorite park, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. Outdoor sessions give us beautiful natural light, while studio or in-home sessions feel more intimate. Just keep in mind that some locations do require permits or reservations for professional photography, so it's important to communicate and plan ahead. Let me know where you're thinking, and I can help figure out if we need to get any permissions sorted before your session.

Honestly, we don't force it. I'm great at working with wiggly, grumpy, or camera-shy kids. The goal is capturing your family as you really are—even if that means someone's crying or running in the opposite direction. Those "imperfect" moments are often the most real and cherished. That said, bribery is absolutely your best friend here—bring snacks, promise ice cream after, whatever works! I'm not above using treats and promises to get one more smile before we wrap up.

Coordinate, don't match! Choose a color palette and let everyone wear something they're comfortable in. Avoid logos, busy patterns, or anything that will distract from your faces. And most importantly, let personalities shine—if your kid loves dinosaurs, let them wear the dinosaur shirt.
I always say pick out mama's outfit first, and then pick everyone else's around that. It makes the whole process so much easier!

Another tip: warmer colors give everyone nice skin tones, so lean towards warmer colors like creams, tans, rust, olive, or soft neutrals. They photograph beautifully and make everyone glow.

Bring everyone! Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins—the more the merrier. I'm great at wrangling large groups and making sure everyone gets their moment. Just give me a heads-up on who's coming so we can plan accordingly.

We'll work with it! Some people are camera-shy, and that's okay. I'll keep things low-pressure and natural. Sometimes getting them involved in something they love (like tossing a football or playing with the dog) helps them forget the camera's there.

About an hour. That's enough time to get great shots without exhausting everyone—especially little kids who max out on patience quickly.
