Eleven years together. A Disney World engagement in 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Then COVID hit, and like so many couples, Katie and Morgan’s wedding plans came to a halt. But love doesn’t wait for perfect timing. ✨
Through years of moving around the country for work (and collecting five adorable kitties along the way!), these two never stopped building their life together. Finally, in 2025, they were ready to make it officially official at the most perfect place imaginable.
Katie grew up near Lake Shafer, where the Lighthouse Lodge sits like a quaint lakeside dream. Every year, their families gather for “lake week” – camping, boating, grilling, and making memories by the water. So naturally, they invited everyone from around the country to come celebrate their love in the same magical spot.
Their wedding was uniquely, authentically THEM. A camping theme that had guests staying most of the week (seriously, they grilled TONS of meat!). The reception featured four amazing rounds of trivia, because who doesn’t love a good competition? Katie hand-knitted finger puppets for every single guest – talk about labor of love! They held an awards ceremony to thank everyone for their help, and ended the night with fireworks reflecting over Lake Shafer.
But here’s what made my photographer heart absolutely melt: Morgan’s reaction to seeing his bride. During their intimate first look, he was so overcome with joy that he cried. Then, when Katie walked down the aisle in her gorgeously altered dress (she had it shortened to make it uniquely hers – genius move for a hot July day in Indiana!), he cried all over again. Because that’s what real love looks like.
Katie and Morgan, your humor, your love, and your ability to create magic out of any moment are what make photographing weddings like yours such a privilege. Here’s to lake weeks, finger puppet traditions, and a lifetime of making each other laugh!
