Will and Elizabeth live in San Francisco right now but are moving to Chicago so Will can start business school. It’s perfect because his twin sister already lives in Chicago!
Will originally reached out about the surprise proposal at the end of 2024. He was wanting to propose right around New Year’s and had only a few weeks to plan. A few days later, he reached out and said he wanted to push it out until January so he could plan more details and make it absolutely perfect. I was happy to accommodate the change!
We picked The Honeycomb as our location and also discussed backup spots, just in case the weather was horrific! Luckily, the days leading up showed sunshine and no snow (but man was it chilly – a brisk 12 degrees!).
He had his twin sister’s roommate meet me at the location. She was acting as my security guard to make sure we didn’t get any photo bombers!!
We met about an hour before he was to arrive and scoped everything out. I got set up and we waited. A few people were out walking and admiring the structure – but we told them all “a couple is about to be here and he is going to propose and she doesn’t know!” Whenever we told people, they all scurried away!
He texted us that he was leaving in an Uber with her and ETA was 10 minutes out. We both got so nervous waiting. We wanted it to be absolutely perfect and for her not to notice us. I hid behind a structure and she was closer to the water on a path. They walked up and I followed behind to capture the moment. It was beautiful – lots of tears of happiness!
I hope you enjoy these beautiful photos as much as I do! If you’re looking for a Chicago wedding and engagement photographer, please reach out.
