Against the backdrop of Chicago’s iconic skyline—a landscape that holds special meaning for this athletic couple who regularly run its streets together—Prathayini and Trevor’s engagement session captured the essence of their relationship.

As a Chicago wedding and engagement photographer for years, I knew exactly where to take them for those perfect city shots while avoiding the typical tourist crowds. My familiarity with the city’s hidden gems and changing light conditions throughout the seasons made all the difference.

We connected at the Chicago Wedding Show and immediately began planning their urban engagement shoot. After cleverly rescheduling to avoid the St. Patrick’s Day festivities (and the green-dyed river that comes with it!), we met on a crisp 40-degree morning. The early hour gifted us with relatively empty streets, allowing their connection to take center stage.

Our journey began along the waterfront, where the gentle morning light perfectly illuminated their joy. From there, we moved to the historic Chicago Board of Trade building—a meaningful location where Trevor works and where Prathayini would often drop him off, their daily routines intertwining in this architectural landmark. The weekend timing proved perfect, as the reduced foot traffic and sunlight reflecting off the building’s exquisite gold details created a naturally elegant backdrop.

The session featured thoughtful personal touches, including a celebration with champagne (a thoughtful gift from a friend) and a wardrobe change into stunning traditional Indian attire—a beautiful nod to their heritage as Prathayini’s mother prepares to travel to India to select their wedding outfits.
